William Benzie Forbes Climie was born on October 1, 1921, in Glasgow City, Scotland. He was the son of Adam Climie and of Mary S. F. Climie, of Los Angeles, California.

William served in the 434 Squadron Bluenose Squadron (In Excelsis Vincimus) of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Warrant Officer II during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 23, 1943, when his aircraft was shot down by a night fighter while on a bombing raid on the IG Farben Works in Leverkusen. He crashed near Tongeren, Belgium.
