Luther Wilbur Jones served in the United States Navy as a Chief Aerographer's Mate during World War II. He was one of six men who, with permission from the Naval Governor on Guam, evaded the Japanese after the invasion on December 8, 1941. He and two of his comrades were subsequently captured and beheaded on September 11, 1942, after digging their own graves, and two others were captured and executed in October.
