Michael Joseph Abbrid was born on November 5, 1924, in Massena, St. Lawrence County, New York. He was the son of Felix H. Abbrid and Anna H. Matieu Abbrid.
He attended Massena Schools, enlisted in the US Marine Corps, and left for duty and training on August 3, 1942. He had six months of training before going to the South Pacific. He fought in several major battles, including the Solomons, Saipan, and Bougainville.
At the time of his death, Michael was serving in Company G, 2nd Battalion, 21st Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, as a Private. He died of wounds on August 5, 1944, during the Battle for Guam.
