Richard Keller Alderfer was born on November 18, 1924. He was the son of Willis Y. Alderfer and Sallie Freed Keller Alderfer.

Richard served in Pioneer Company, 22nd Marine Regiment, 1st Provisional Marine Brigade, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 21, 1944, during the Battle for Guam, and is now buried in the Christ Reformed Church of Indian Creek Cemetery, Telford, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA.
