Francis Donald Schmeltz was the son of Franklyn L. Schmeltz and Cecilia A. Schmeltz, of Reading, Pennsylvania. He served in the #21 Operation Training Unit of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on July 1, 1942, when his Wellington aircraft # X 9637 crashed into the sea and burned off Sowey, Cornwall.
