James Campbell McQuaid was born in 1894, in Buffalo, Erie County, New York. He was the son of James C. and Eleanor McQuaid. He was married to Georgina Burnett. He served in the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles Battalion as a Private during World War I.
Pvt McQuaid was wounded on four separate occasions during his service, and his relatives believed he had been sent home as an invalid for the rest of the war. He was Killed in Action between October 30 and 31, 1917. He is now buried in the Passchendaele New British Cemetery, Passchendaele, Arrondissement Ieper, West Flanders, Belgium.
