Wilfred Baker was born on August 23, 1914, in Altamont, Labette County, Kansas. He was the son of Wilfred Baker and Jessie Kugler Baker. He enlisted in the service on August 4, 1944. He served in the 271st Infantry Regiment, 69th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.

PFC Baker was Killed in Action on April 16, 1945, during the Battle of Weißenfels in Germany. He is now buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial, Margraten, Eijsden-Margraten Municipality, Limburg, Netherlands.
