Lyonel Henry Eich was born on March 12, 1926, in Gothenburg, Dawson County, Nebraska. He was the son of John H. Eich and Hattie M. Eich. He was married to Iryl Verlene Tomasek Nelson. He was a graduate of Lexington High School in 1944. He worked in Lincoln Cleaners before entering the army on August 22, 1944, completed basic training at Camp Fannin, Texas, and was sent overseas early in 1945, where he served with the First Army in France and Germany. He served in the 271st Infantry Regiment, 69th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.
PFC Eich died from his wounds received in battle on April 13, 1945, during the Battle of Weißenfels in Germany. He is now buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial, Margraten, Eijsden-Margraten Municipality, Limburg, Netherlands.
