Maj. Richard "Dick" Winters served with the famed "Easy" Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. He initially enlisted in the Army in August of 1941, but was sent to Officer Candidate School in April of 1942. He took charge of Easy Company during the Normandy Campaign after the commanding officer's C-47 Skytrain was shot down by German anti-aircraft. He later took part in the Battle of the Bulge around Bastogne. He retired from the army after the Korean War.
