Andrew Jackson Speese III was born on August 10, 1912, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Working in shipbuilding industry, his occupation was considered vital and he was able to defer the draft. As the war progressed, his deferment was withdrawn. He was drafted on October 16, 1943, in Houston Texas, and he departed from the United States on April 6, 1944. He belonged to Company K, of 357th Infantry Regiment. He was ranked Private, however he wrote in his last letter that he was a sergeant. He was killed on July 6, 1944 in Plessis-Lastelle.
