2nd Lt Carthel O. Gaskin, bombardier of the B-17 42-31432 “Old Glory”, took off from Molesworth, Cambridgeshire, UK on a bombing mission over Lille’s railroad infrastructure. Lt Gaskin died when his plane crashed after being hit by German flak at 1900.
