1st Lt Donald J. Furlong, pilot of the P-47 Thunderbolt 42-26274, took off from station 150 in Boxted, Essex, UK on a mission over Bernay-St-Martin. He was hit by flak at 0615. His plane exploded in midair, causing him to crash to his death.
