1st Lt Richard Orlando Gasperoni, pilot of the C-64 43-5313, took off from Le Bourget to transport medical supplies to Dijon-Lonvic. Following their drop the plane crashed due to bad weather conditions, killing both crew members. Gasperoni, having been wounded in a previous posting, had elected to remain in France rather than return to the US.
