2nd Lt Norbert W. Herriges, pilot of the P-47 Thunderbolt 42-26442, took off from Serragia, Corsica at 0430 on a mission over the railroad junction at Miramas.He was shot down by a German Me-109 fighter piloted by Oberfeldwebel Eduard Isken of the JG/200 at1915. Although he managed to bail out successfully, his parachute failed to open, plunging him to his death.
