When Delbert B. Herald was born on March 24, 1920, in Anderson, Kentucky, his father, Thomas, was 31 and his mother, Susan, was 28. He had two sons with Josephine Alberta Hardin. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 157th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division. He entered service in Indiana on November 29, 1943. He died on August 27, 1944, Killed in Action, during the invasion of southern France. He is now buried at Floral Park Cemetery, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, USA.
