When Robert L. Meisel was born in 1913 in Cleveland, Ohio, his father, Max, was 18 and his mother, Bertine, was 26. He had one brother and two sisters. Meisel served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the 3rd Reconnaissance Group. He entered service in Ohio. He died on August 27, 1944 during the invasion of southern France. He is now buried at Rhone American Cemetery and Memorial, Draguignan, Departement du Var, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France.
