When Roy Leon Willeford was born on March 31, 1920, in Greenville, Texas, his father, Charles, was 37 and his mother, Cammie, was 28. He had five brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 143rd Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division. He entered service in Texas. He died on August 26, 1920 during the invasion of southern France. He is now buried at Elmira Cemetery, Spring Hill, Gregg County, Texas, USA.
