Sgt. Jendras Dies Of Wounds
Received In Southern France

Staff Sergeant. Anthony Jendras, twenty-nine,, the only son of Mrs. Monica Jendras of 61, Jefferson Street, died Aug. 28 of wounds receivedIn action the previous day in Southern France, the War Department has notified his wife, the former Marie Cudina of Cliffside Park, N. J.

The Infantryman was wounded in action by shrapnel in the heavy fighting with the Fifth Army near Cassino, Italy, last January, but recovered and was reassigned to his unit. When wounded the second time, he was with the 143rd Infantry Regiment. Entered Army In 1942.

Son of the late Anthony Jendras. Sergeant Jendras married the former Miss Cudlna Nov. 4, 1030. He entered the service Feb. 18, 1042, and trained at Camp Blanding, Fla. and Camp Edwards. Mass.

He went overseas 18 months ago and first landed In North Africa. From there he was asaigned to the Fifth Army and saw action In the heavy fighting st Cassino. On Aug. 15 he went Into Southern France. In his last letter home to his mother, dated Aug. 24—two days before he was Wounded the second time—he wrote that France was a "beautiful country" and that it "won't be too long before I shall be seeing you again."
Born In Brooklyn

Sergeant Jendras was bom to Brooklyn April 6, 1015, and a year later his family moved to Yonkers. He was graduated from St. Casimlr's School and the Don Boeeo Preparstory School in New Jersey. Before entering the Army he was employed by the Celanese Corporation in New York.
