When Edward Cyril Ondris was born on April 11, 1916, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, his father, Joseph, was 24 and his mother, Rosalia, was 21. He had two sisters. He attended school in Charleroi and was known to all as "Eddie".

"Eddie" trained at Maxwell Field, Ala; Douglas, Ga. and Gunter Field, Ala. He received his fighter pilot wings in March, 1943, and left for overseas in August, 1943. After arrival in England he subsequently completed 89 flying missions and 491 combat hours over enemy territory.

Lt. Ondris was killed in action 5th April 1944 flying P-51B serial no. 43-6937, while completing a mission over enemy territory. He is now buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA. Source of information: www.findagrave.com, www.ancestry.com
