When Gilbert M. Plowman was born in 1919 in Hempstead, New York, his father, Gilbert, was 27 and his mother, Wilhelmina, was 24. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II as a Second Lieutenant in the 354th Fighter Squadron, 355th Fighter Group. He entered the service in New York. He was killed in an air collision on April 7, 1945 with Lieutenant Mills while flying on board the P-51D (44-15346). First was found interred in a church cemetery in Gilten Germany and is now buried in The Evergreens Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings County (Brooklyn), New York, USA.
