Chauncey Hobart Rankin was born on March 24, 1919. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II as a First Lieutenant in the 358th Fighter Squadron, 355th Fighter Group. He entered the service in Kentucky. He was killed in action on 29 January 1944 flying P-47D serial no. 42-8504. He is now buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France. He also has a marker at Crown City Cemetery, Crown City, Gallia County, Ohio, USA.
