When Joseph J. Vigna was born on May 2, 1920, in Sonoma, California, his father, James, was 29 and his mother, Louise, was 22. He had one brother and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II as a First Lieutenant in the 358th Fighter Squadron, 355th Fighter Group. He entered the service in California. He was killed in action on 18th September 1944 flying in the P-51C serial no. 42-103317. He is now buried in Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, USA.
