When Jack J. Woertz was born on November 22, 1921, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, his father, Harold, was 26 and his mother, Bertha, was 26. He had two brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II as a First Lieutenant in the 358th Fighter Squadron, 355th Fighter Group. He entered the service in Pennsylvania. 1Lt Woertz was killed in a flying accident while on finals to Steeple Morden on 11th December 1943 flying in P-47D serial no. 42-75045. He is now buried in Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial, Coton, South Cambridgeshire District, Cambridgeshire, England.
