When Claude E. Girdley was born on November 24, 1892, in Louisville, Kentucky, his father, Beverly, was 31 and his mother, Mary, was 22. He had one brother and seven sisters. He entered the service on September 20, 1917 in Indiana. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in D Company, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on November 05, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, France.
