Vincenty Michalek entered the military service in Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company B, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on July 21, 1918 and is now buried in Suresnes American Cemetery, Suresnes, France. Some records show that his name is Wincenty. His name is inscribed on the Buzancy monument in Company D of his unit.
