Lorris- Orléans Forest

Description:

This eight-pointed star-shaped junction is comprised of a commemorative monument with the tomb of French Colonel O’Neill (commander of the resistance in the area) tomb at its front, a line of white cross cenotaphs, and two forester’s lodges, placed on different sections. American pilot CPT Edward K. Simpson, killed in the incident, is honored on the monument.

Located at The Carrefour de la Résistance (formerly known as the Carrefour d’Orléans) in the heart of the Orléans Forest. This spot is a major symbol in memory of the massacre, by German forces, of several French Resistance fighters (‘maquisards’) and civilians on the 14th of August 1944.
