2nd Lt Ralph Bruce & Escape Assistance Memorial - B-17 (42-29725) 'Hi-Lo Jack'

On the west side of the road.
A small stone boulder with a weathered plaque commemorating Lt Ralph Bruce who was the pilot on the B-17 42-29725 'Hi-Lo Jack' which was shot down shot down in the area during WWII. Seven of the crew evaded capture and 3 became POWs.
From the American Air Museum Britain website:
Shot down on 3 September 1943 in B-17 #42-29725. Bruce managed to evade capture with the help of the French Resistance. He was first hidden by Frenchman Lucian Barbillon, his wife and son Gabriel, in Lucian Barbillon's house in Trilbardou, France. Bruce eventually made his way into Spain, where he rejoined Allied forces in Gibraltar on 19 February 1944. He was returned to the USA shortly after.
