Cpt C.A. Austin Jr. Memorial

<< Back to Limetz-Villez

Details:

On the north roadside of the D201 on the Cpt Austin square.

Monument

The monument features a propeller blade from CPT Austin's aircraft as the central element. It is constructed from light-colored brick, with a plaque at its base that commemorates Captain Austin, an American pilot who died on July 4, 1944. Behind the propeller is a detailed depiction of a P-47 Thunderbolt aircraft on a circular plaque. The aircraft is labeled "ETTA 2nd," which likely refers to its designation or nickname. The design of the whole memorial is simple yet poignant, with the propeller blade symbolizing CPT Austin's sacrifice. A star insignia, representing the U.S. Air Force, is displayed on the ground in front of the monument. On the wall behind the monument, there are two bronze plaques. One, located to the left of the monument, is dedicated to Captain Austin, while the other, positioned directly behind the monument, honors Private First Class Adams.
