At the base of the town's war memorial, a small grey plaque with gold lettering commemorating Lts Hammond and Rees of the 36th Bomb Squadron, 482nd Bomb Group, Heavy who crashed in the area during WWII while supporting an "Operation Carpetbagger" mission to support the French Resistance.
