In the cemetery, just in front of the tomb of David Hume.

The American Civil War Memorial was dedicated on 21 August 1893.  It honors the Scots who fought and died in the American Civil War. It consists of a standing figure of  Abraham Lincoln with a freed slave giving thanks at his feet.  The sculptures are by George Edwin Bissell and the stonework by Stewart McGlashan & Son.   A bronze shield carries the American flag and is wreathed in cotton and thistles. Two regimental flags lie furled below. The freed slave holds a book, representing that he is not only free but also educated. The monument was erected through American funding and honors the small group of Scots who had all fought for the Union.  Photo is courtesy of geograph.org.
