This black stone plaque commemorates (in French) the sacrifices of the 141st (First Texas) and 143rd (Third Texas) Infantry Regiments during their liberation of eastern France. Both units came from Texas and fought throughout Italy, Southern France, Eastern France, and ultimately in Germany. On multiple occasions these units were among the first infantry troops to enter major combat areas, specifically Rome for the 143rdand Southern France for the 141st. The liberation of Mailleroncourt and Villers occurred just before the Vosges campaign and the ultimate allied entrance into Germany.
