6th Armored Division Monument

<< Back to Troisvierges

Details:

This monument is located just off of the road on the northwest side of the large German artillery canon that also occupies the side. It is located on the opposite side of the small rest area from a private residence.  Plaque This tan sandstone monument rests on a darker stone and cobblestone base. Part of the monument consists of two slightly separated pieces of sandstone with deep ridges that each have a semi-circle shaped cut-out. The other, smaller piece of sandstone has similar ridges and holds two bronze plaques, both of which feature the insignia of the 6th Armored Division. The top plaque is dedicated to the soldiers of the 6th Armored Division who fought for the liberation of Troisvierges. The bottom plaque recognizes the continued appreciation of the people of Troisvierges and expresses the gratitude of the members of the 6th Armored Division. Both plaques have English text.

During the Second World War, Troisvierges was a strategic location due to the fact that one of the principal rail lines between Germany and France travelled through the town. Additionally, after the German invasion of Luxembourg, the Troisvierges rail station was used as not only a route to get supples to France but also as a deployment point for young Luxembourgers who had been forced into military serve and were sent as far away as the Russian front.

(Note: CEBA is the acronym for the Cercle d'Études sur la Bataille des Ardennes or Circle of Studies on the Battle of the Bulge)
