Christmas Day 1943 Graffiti- 45th Infantry Division
Details:
The graffiti is located behind a transparent protective cover to the left of the doorway.
Commemorative Object
Graffiti etched into three bricks by soldiers of the 45thDivision (most likely the HQ Company, 45thDivision) which was located in this building in December 1943.
The doorway to the building also show bullet and shrapnel scars to this day.
Monument Text:
The Graffiti includes the date “December 25, 1943” and what seem to be a soldiers name and the date “1943” and other difficult to understand inscriptions.
The transparent protective plaque also has text in Italian, which reads:
WINTER LINE VENAFRO In Memoria di Ogni Sacrificio- In memory of every sacrifice
45thDivision Symbol
25 Dicembre 1943- Questo edificio era sede del commando della 45thDiv. American.
Alcuni soldati di guardia quell giorno hanno volute lasciare su questo muro la perenne
memoria della loro presenza.
Translation into English:
25 December 1943 – This building was the location of the Headquarters of the U.S .45thDivision. Some soldiers on guard duty that day wanted to leave their perennial memory of their presence on the wall.
