94th Infantry Division Demarcation Line Outpost Marker
Details:
The marker is located on the west end of the bridge on the concrete guard rail.
The marker marks the location of on the Otava river where the US side of the 1945 demarcation line between allied forces: Soviet Union and the United States. The spot marks where Company H of the 376th
Infantry Regiment, 94thInfantry Division established outpost 119-E on this demarcation line. Across the river, Soviet Forces established their outpost on the line. The marker also indicates “graffiti” left by soldiers of the outpost during their duty on the demarcation line. The 376thInfantry Regiment HQ was located in nearby Strakonice. The 94thInfantry Division, known as “Patton’s Golden Nuggets” was part of XII Corps (LTG Earnest Harmon), 3rdArmy (General George Patton), was headquartered in Susice and conducted demarcation line and occupation duty until December 1945 when all US and Soviet forces left the country. Information panels are located on either side of the bridge.
