303rd Bombardment Group Memorial (Center monument)

Monument

The memorial consists of three free standing granite blocks, set on a low plinth. The central block, square in shape, is inscribed in English text, incised in yellow lettering, on the front and back. Printed in colors, on the top-front view, are the insignia of the US Army Air Forces, illustration of B-17, and insignia of the 303rd Bombardment Group. Surmounted by a triangle stone block, the triangle is printed with a “C” denoting the 303rd was in the 1st Air Division. Another small block was placed in front of the plinth with inscription.

 

The 303rd Bomb Group was an Eighth Air Force, B-17 Bomber Group stationed at Molesworth, England from 1942 to 1945. Their motto, Might in Flight, was earned on each of their record 364 combat missions.
