Isolated Burial

A standard military headstone in a CWGC cemetery.

The ISOB is of LT Burton Gross who was killed in a crash nearby while on an orientation flight with the RAF conducting an "Operation Carpetbagger mission.  Records indicate that he flew as part of the 22nd Anti-Submarine Squadron, but he may have been part of the 36th Bomber Squadron of the 801st Bomber Group which was beginning Carpetbagger missions at the time.
