Private First Class (PFC) Oscar G. Johnson served with the Company L, 134th Infantry Regiment “All Hell Can’t Stop Us” of the 35th Infantry Division, 3rd US Army. He was killed during the Battle of St. Lo in France on July 15, 1944.
Oscar Johnson was born in Frillesås, Sweden on May 13, 1909. He immigrated to the US in 1929 and resided and married in Grays Harbor in Washington State. He enlisted in the US Army in 1942. He came ashore in France on Omaha Beach on July 6, 1944 with the 35th Infantry Division, and soon there after was KIA during the Battle of St. Lo. His body was shipped to Sweden in 1949 at the request of his family, and buried in the Churchyard of the town of his birth.
He was one of over 4,200 US soldiers born in Sweden who served in the US military from 1941-45.
