A large boulder with two plaques attached on the front.

 

The memorial remembers those who fell during the liberation of the town by the 119th Infantry Regiment of the 30th “Old Hickory” Infantry Division on September 17, 1944.

 

The memorial was dedicated on the 45th Anniversary of the town’s liberation in 1989.

Monument Text:

The text on the plaques on the boulder are written in English and in Dutch.  The English plaque reads:

 

This memorial was erected to honor the men of the 119th Regiment of the 30th Infantry Division who gave their lives in the liberation of Valkenburg so that its citizens may continue to live in peace.
