Drop Zone 'O' Memorial- 325th GIR and 504th PIR
Details:
On the north side of the road between the towns of Overasselt and Nederasselt.
Monument
The memorial sits on a large field and includes three large steel parachutes; 3 flagpoles; and, information signs.
The memorial remembers the 82nd Airborne Division’s 325th Glider Infantry Regiment and 504th Parachute Infantry and a battalion of Polish Paratroopers (1st Independent Polish Para) landing at this location – “Drop Zone O” - on September 17, 1944 during Operation Market Garden.
The objective of the units was to size the nearby bridges across the Maas (Meuse) River at Grave and over the Maas-Waal Canal.
The monument was dedicated on September 17, 1985.
