The Medal of Honor is the highest award for bravery for the US forces. The first United States soldier to earn the Medal of Honor was Corporal Thomas Pope of Company E, 131st Infantry, 33rd Division. Pope received the Medal of Honor for bravery in the advance towards Le Hamel.
