Isolated Burial



A family grave plot; a gray inscribed vault about three feet high with a cross on top.

 

Private Adolphe Vercuysse was born in Belgium and immigrated to the United States and lived in Chicago, Illinois.  He enlisted in the US Army in served in the Quartermaster Corps with the 318th Field Remount Squadron – a unit which serviced horses required by the Army.  In September 1918 he died from sickness, possibly the Spanish Flu,  near Nevers, France.  After the war he was reinterred in his hometown in Belgium at the request of his family and is buried with his brother.
