2Lt Harold E. Kline Monument
Details:
In the middle of the vineyards.
A small stone monument bearing a black rectangular plaque. The plaque contains the commemoration message written in French. Above the plaque are two badges of the French and American flags. The monument was inaugurated on August 26, 2019.
On August 18, 1944, at 11:45 a.m., the Lockheed P-38 Lightning with a double fuselage and a white star on a black background crashed here. The two Allison engines of 1 725 HP, had not been able to react to the solicitations of the pilot, Harold Kline (of the 71st Fighter Squadron, 1st Fighter group, 15th Air Force), probably mortally hit in flight, who had not been able to jump. His parachute was found deployed next to his half-charred body.
