Plaque

A rectangular plaque inscribed in English and French that recalls the sacrifice and circumstances during which on November 17, 1944, the 1st Lt. Edward James Bolen Jr. of the 12th. Air Force - 324th. FG - 314th. FS, aged 22, was shot down on his 41st mission. Below the plaque is a wooden sculpture representing the American Fighter Pilot's license.

 Engagé aux commandes de son appareil dans la bataille de la Meurthe et touché par la Flak (défense anti-aérienne), le Lieutenant Bolen s'est écrasé dans la prairie proche et inondée le 17 novembre 1944 dans le courant de l'après-midi. Il a trouvé la mort après avoir tenté d'utiliser son parachute. Son corps n'a pu être extrait de l'épave que quelques temps plus tard en raison des conditions climatiques difficiles et des combats en cours jusqu'à fin Novembre.

 

Dévoilée le 11/11/2014 par le Maire Christian Fégli, à l'occasion des commémorations

du 70ème anniversaire de la Libération de la commune.

 

English translation:

 

Flying his aircraft in the Battle of the Meurthe and hit by Flak (anti-aircraft defense), Lieutenant Bolen crashed in the flooded meadow nearby during the afternoon of November 17, 1944. He died after attempting to use his parachute. His body was not recovered from the wreckage until some time later, due to the difficult weather conditions and the fighting that continued until the end of November.

 

Unveiled on 11/11/2014 by Mayor Christian Fégli, on the occasion of the commemorations    

of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the commune.
