On the night of September 2 to 3, 1944, American troops set up their artillery on the Ramasse hill and in Sénissiat. The liberation of Ceyzériat lasted two days, and the town was heavily bombarded. The damage was considerable.

On September 4, Ceyzériat was liberated. But on September 3, at the entrance to the village, Robert Gauvin, known as Bob, of the 45th Infantry Division, was killed in the final assault.
