Plaque
A rectangular black plaque commemorating American soldiers of the 28th Infantry Division who liberated the town on February 8, 1945. The 28th Infantry Division, known as the "Keystone Division" due to its Pennsylvania origins, played a significant role during World War II. After landing in Normandy in July 1944, the division took part in key operations across Europe, including the liberation of French towns and villages.
On February 8, 1945, during the Rhineland Campaign, the division was engaged in operations to push German forces out of their defensive positions along the Siegfried Line. By that time, the Allies were pressing toward the heart of Germany, and the 28th Division was tasked with securing areas in both France and Germany. Their actions helped liberate multiple towns as they advanced, contributing to the eventual defeat of the Nazi regime in Europe.
