Monument
A white stone monument with a machine gun mounted on top commemorating Pvt Parrish, Pvt Hornsby, Cpl Bary, and Sgt Panasewic were part of the 30th Infantry Division that was killed on August 10, 1944, during the fierce fighting that followed the Allied breakout from Normandy. The monument is written in French.
The soldiers were killed in combat near Dehault during the fighting that followed the Battle of Mortain, where the German forces launched a counterattack in an attempt to stop the Allies' progress. The village of Dehault, like many other locations in northern France, witnessed intense clashes during this phase of the war as Allied forces pushed to liberate towns and secure supply routes.
