A rectangular white plaque commemorating Private Henry Crowder who died on August 23, 1944. The plaque is written in French.
Private Henry Robert Crowder served in the 217th Military Police Company during World War II. Born on February 3, 1915, he enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 19, 1943, receiving training at Fort Oglethorpe, Fort Devens, and Fort Dix. He deployed to Europe in March 1944, serving in England and Ireland before joining the liberation efforts in France.
On August 23, 1944, Crowder was killed in action during the Normandy Campaign. He was laid to rest at the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, France. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.
