Landelles-et-Coupigny 29th Infantry Division Plaque
Details:
Mounted on the wall to the right of the door.
Plaque
A rectangular brown plaque honoring the 29th Infantry Division for liberating the town on August 4, 1944. The plaque has the division’s insignia and is written in French with gold lettering.
On August 4, the 29th Division secured Landelles, providing a strategic pathway to Vire, which would eventually fall on August 6. This advance allowed the Allies to trap German forces in what became known as the Falaise Pocket, a decisive encirclement that weakened German positions in France, hastening the Allies' movement towards Paris and eventually contributing to the collapse of German control in the region.
