The memorial remembers the crew of B-17 (42-31561) 'Just Elmers Tune' of the 335th Bomber Squadron, 95th Bomber Group. The plane was shot down on February 24, 1944 while on a mission to Rostock, Germany. Two of the crew were KIA; the rest were taken POW.
