Monument

A rectangular plaque affixed to a metal base honoring the historical significance of the B-17 Flying Fortress #42-5867 crash, listing the names, ranks, and roles of its crew members. The plaque features the insignia of the 100th Bombardment Group and an illustration of the aircraft. The plaque's text is written in Dutch, and the monument was officially unveiled on January 26, 2025.

ALICE From DALLAS

B-17 Flying Fortress 42-5867

100th Bombardment Group – 350th Bombardment Squadron

 

Op 17 augustus 1943 stortte nabij deze plaats de Amerikaanse bommenwerper Alice From Dallas neer nadat ze werd geraakt door vijandelijk geschut tijdens de bombardementsmissie op de Duitse Messerschmitt vliegtuigfabrieken in Regensburg. Van de tien bemanningsleden kwamen er twee om het leven (KIA), drie van hen werden krijgsgevangen (POW) en vijf anderen konden met hulp van het verzet ontsnappen (EVD).

On August 17, 1943, the American bomber Alice From Dallas crashed near this place after being hit by enemy guns during the bombing mission on the German Messerschmitt aircraft factories in Regensburg. Of the ten crew members, two were killed (KIA), three of them became prisoners of war (POW) and five others were able to escape with the help of the resistance (EVD).
